Managing a trade herd

A trade herd is a group of individuals purchased to graze for a given period or until weight or age criteria are met before being sold. This herd is usually considered separate from the breeder herd and can be used to earn income when sufficient pasture is available.

Purchasing individuals

The Arrange ruminant purchase activity is used to request new purchases with Specify ruminant components defining the details of the individuals. This activity also allow for the specification of the paddock (GrazeFoodStoreType) in which to place the individuals and a tag label with which to assign as an attribute to help identify the trade animals for future activities. It also allows a relationship between pasture biomass and the number of animals to purchase to be provided.

Selling individuals

The Mark ruminants for sale activity can then be used to mark the individuals as TradeSales which will be sold by the Buy and sell ruminants activity using the animal pricing provided in Ruminant type. This activity will utilise a Ruminant group with filters to match the tag used and age, weight or months since purchase properties specified to set the selling conditions.
