Job Opportunity at BOKU, Vienna

The Department of Crop Sciences, Institute of Agronomy, at BOKU University in Vienna, Austria, is
seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral or PhD Researcher to work on Modelling Intercropping
Systems. This 3year full time position is available from 1 January 2023.


The successful candidate is expected to develop, parameterise, and evaluate a processbased model
for simulating legumecereal intercropping systems based on historical datasets as well as new
experimental data to be collected from field trials and farm labs in different pedoclimatic zones
across Europe. The successful candidate will closely collaborate with an international
multidisciplinary team. He/She will communicate with stakeholders involved in the project and
present project outcomes at scientific conferences and meetings. A high level of productivity for
peerreviewed publications is expected.


Qualifications and required skills


Applicants should have a Masters or Ph.D. (doctorate) in agricultural systems modelling or similar.
Candidates must have demonstrated experience in developing and improving processbased crop
models. Advanced knowledge of crop physiology, agronomy, and crop modelling as well as
experience with major cropping systems models, such as APSIM, SSMiCrop, DSSAT, CERES, is
essential. Experience and skills in handling large datasets, statistical analysis of experimental data,
and analytical skills in crop model parameterisation and evaluation are strongly preferred.
Documented experience in scientific writing and publication in peerreviewed scientific journals and
proficiency in written and spoken English is also required.
